2 wins 2 fastest laps 2 pole positions 1 lap record and a driver of the day, this is how the Fortec UK Formula Renault team finished their weekend at the World series by Renault meeting at Silverstone. Adriano Buzaid set the two fastest laps in qualifying to take pole position in each of the races on Sunday. James Calado had his best qualifying so far with 2 front rows in second for both races. Riki Christodoulou set the fastest last two sectors but lost out in the first sector so could only manage 4th in each of the races. Oli Webb set two impressive laps to put him 7th on the grid in each race. Adriano led both races from lights to flag, the first race he won by 2.5 seconds setting the fastest lap of the race with a new lap record, in Race two he won the race by 8 seconds gaining an award for driver of the day and going second in the drivers standings. James finished race one with another podium in third place, in race two he damaged his front wing in a first lap incident so dropped down to ninth, this is where he finished after some hard battling to keep position. Riki dropped to fifth on the start in the first race, he battled with Alex Sims and passed him for 4th place, in the second race a first lap incident with James caused him to have a puncture, he had to pit for a replacement tyre, he immediately left the pits to set the fastest lap of the race. Oli in the first race had a fantastic start and got onto the back of Riki in fifth place but a mistake whilst under pressure caused Oli to spin and drop down the order to finish twelfth. In the second race Oli drove well to finish sixth. Our next round is at the quick Norfolk circuit Snetterton with a two day test the week before we are looking to improve our cars even more as we did for Silverstone.

The qualifying sessions saw all four Fortec cars go through to the final Superpole stage. Alex Morgan qualified 10th and 5th for the two races with team-mates Gabriel Dias 13th and 10th, and Daniel McKenzie 17th and 16th. Dean Smith secured 2nd and 13th places on the grid but a technical infringement in post-qualifying scrutineering would see him moved to the back of the grid for both races. For Race 1, Alex Morgan made a strong start and moved up to 7th position followed by Dias 9th and McKenzie 19th. Dean Smith charged through the field, passing over twenty cars during the 27-minute race to come home in 18th position. Race 2 brought another great start from Morgan with him retaining his 5th position on the grid where he would stay until a mistake a few laps later would put him out of the race. Gabriel Dias raced well to maintain his 10th position with Daniel McKenzie finishing 14th and Dean Smith in 16th from the back of the grid. The Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup now travels to Hungary for rounds 5 & 6 on the 5/6 July.

After a successful debut season in the 2007 World Series by Renault, James Walker will continue to race with Fortec Motorsport in 2008. The Jersey racer fits in well with the British team and is delighted with this news as he believes a continuation of the partnership will give him the best chance of further success in the Series. “I had a good rookie season in the World Series by Renault,” said James. “The highlight was definitely the win at Donington but I enjoyed the whole season as we made steady progress as we went through the races. I know I still have more to give and I have continued to train hard over the winter to make sure I am ready for the new season. I know that the team will continue to push me hard and I am ready and willing to put the work in. I think we have some exciting times ahead of us.” “James is the right choice for Fortec,” said Technical Director, Chris Gorne, who was James’ race engineer in 2007. “He did a good job for us last year and made significant improvements as the season went on. Staying with us for his and our second season in WSR, gives both James and the team a sound platform to capitalise on. All the teams have changes with the new car, so working with the same driver reduces the variables and enables us to hit the ground running. I am sure James will be a much stronger and confident competitor from the first race, his application and feedback are exemplary so it's just a matter of time.”

Race engineer to Marcus Ericsson, Andrew Scott commented "The test was incredibly valuable to us at this time of the year in preparation for next season. It ran faultlessly all day and generated a lot of valuable feedback from Marcus. It's a step forward in many ways but presents a considerable development from the aero-package of F307". Following three days of competitive tests, eighteen year-old James Calado from Pershore, Worcestershire, is to take the Racing Steps Foundation (RSF) backed Fortec Motorsport seat in the 2008 Formula Renault UK Championship. In a very close contest against four top racers, Calado, a former Martin Hines ‘Young Gun’, won the opportunity after succeeding first in a race simulator session at Fortec Motorsport then at a two-day track test at Rockingham involving runners-up Tom Arme and Matthew Hamilton. "This has been a very revealing exercise on a number of levels. We have seen some remarkable talent both on the V1 simulator at Fortec, and at Rockingham. The final decision was agonising as all three were so close, but in James we feel we have the right combination of talents: speed, car control, valuable engineering feed-back and personal chemistry." said RSF Ambassador John Surtees MBE: Calado, who had barely sat in a single-seater car before this week, impressed the RSF consultants and the Fortec Motorsport team with his all round capability. "The transition from karts to Formula Renault is a giant step," said Richard Dutton, Team Owner of Fortec Motorsport. "But James managed it in just two days of testing to the extent he narrowly saw off the opposition. With the Racing Steps Foundation, we have an exciting year ahead." For 2008 the RSF will help a small number of young drivers at three levels: Karting, Formula Renault UK, and Formula 3. The Racing Steps Foundation believes it will enable these drivers to progress up the racing ladder instead of having to abandon their ambitions because of a lack of funds.

The biggest challenge for him is learning all the new circuits that he will compete on next year. We at Fortec are delighted that he has joined us for the 2008 British F3 Championship”.

Fortec’s Formula Renault squad ended its 2007 season on a high by securing the Formula Renault UK Drivers Championship title. Duncan Tappy and Dean Smith went into the final round of the series seperated by just seven points. Duncan took a win and fastest lap in race one, enough to secure the title. With one race remaining it was a great result for the remainder of the Fortec drivers with Riki Christodoulou taking his first Formula Renault win and Ryuji Yamamoto taking his highest finish – an impressive 5th place. From the twenty races this season, Fortec Motorsport scored 35 podium finishes including 13 wins and taking the Entrants title with 1078 points ahead of AKA Cobra (786 points) and Apotex Scorpio (621 points).

13/09/2007

The Fortec Formula Renault UK team had it’s best ever weekend at Donington Park and made history at the same time by becoming the first team to clinch 1-2-3 finishes for both races of the day. The weekend also saw Duncan Tappy take two pole positions and a fastest lap, the other going to Fortec team'mate Dean Smith. This confirmed Fortec’s Entrants Championship title with three races remaining on the calendar. The results were the same for both races with Duncan Tappy winning followed by Riki Christodoulou and Dean Smith. In both races Riki made Duncan work hard for his win but it was Dean Smith that had the biggest battle to get his trophy. In race one Dean started from third with Alexander Sims managing to pass him through the first corner. Dean pushed hard and by the mid-point of the race regained his position after what has been described as the best racing of the season. From there he couldn’t pass Riki but put in the fastest lap of the race. Race two had the same 1-2 for Duncan and Riki, with Riki pushing even harder and crossing the line just over a second behind the new Championship leader. Starting from fourth, Dean Smith again battled with Sims for third place on the opening lap. This time Dean came out ahead but in the process lost part of his front wing giving him handling problems for the remainder of the race. He hung on to third and the Fortec trio made history as they crossed the line. No other team can challenge Fortec for the team honours but the Driver’s Championship is still open with two races at Thruxton to decide the title. Duncan Tappy currently has a seven point advantage on Dean Smith but with a maximum of 68 points left it could easily go to either of them. Dave Moore, Team Manager “I’m really pleased for the whole team. We’ve worked very hard and it’s great to have a result that rewards everyone’s efforts. All of the drivers have conducted themselves extremely well both on and off track and that combined with the hard work from the engineers and mechanics has paid off.”

James Walker scored a fantastic first win in the World Series by Renault Championship in Race 2 at Donington Park. After finishing 10th in Race 1, James lined-up on pole-position as a result of the reverse-grid system. His only threat during the 31 lap race was from Michael Aleshin (Carlin) who took the lead at the start before spinning off at the Saftey Car restart. Yelmer Buurman, taking the place of Richard Philippe following his injury at Spa, scored two excellent points positions in only his second race in the series. After finishing fifth in Race 1 from eighth on the grid, Yelmer started from sixth for Race 2 coming home in fourth position taking valuable drivers and team points. The series now travels to Magny-Cours in France on 22-23 September.

ANOTHER FORTEC 1,2 at Snetterton The Formula Renault team had another great result at the weekend. Duncan Tappy winning both races after qualifying 1st and 2nd. Dean Smith also qualified on the front row but too much grip on pole position caused him to bog down at the start and lose places, he fought his way back to 11th place, in the second race Dean set the fastest lap of the race finishing less than a second behind Duncan. Ryuji starting from 14th in both races wasn't his best qualifying to date but to fight his way up to 7th and 9th in each of the races should have given him driver of the day. Riki's qualifying was good with a 3rd and a 4th in each of the races. In race 1 he got hit by Alex Sims into the esses which punctured his tyre and put him out of the race. In race 2 he had a great start and was leading the race until a missed gear caused him to drop to back into the pack, he rubbed wheels with Will Bratt and damaged his suspension, and wasn't able to carry on. We have a test on the 8th August at the super fast Thruxton circuit then on to Brands Hatch on the 18th 19th August to see if we can extend our championship lead.

18/07/2007

The Fortec Formula Renault team enjoyed a successful Donington weekend starting with two pole positions from Dean Smith. Duncan Tappy qualified 3rd and 4th with Riki Christo 4th and 3rd in each of the races. Ryuji Yamamoto did a good job, putting his car 11th and 15th on the grid. The first race started in very heavy rain with Dean dropping a place to Alex Sims. The race was then stopped after 4 laps and the results declared final with Dean finishing 2nd followed closely by Riki and Duncan who swapped positions on the opening lap. Race 2 lasted 11 laps until it was red flagged, again due to weather conditions with Dean taking the win by 5 seconds. Duncan finished 2nd on the road but because of the countback was classified 3rd setting the fastest lap by two-tenths of a second. Riki ran wide at Coppice and touched Paul Rees's stricken car that was beeched on the kerb, damaging his car too much to continue. Ryuji went off in the very greasy conditions attempting to overtake. The next race is at Snetterton on the 29th July where we will be looking to be on the top step of the podium once again.

17/07/2007

Rounds 6 and 7 of the 2007 World Series by Renault saw the Fortec Motorsport team travel to Budapest in Hungary, home of the Hungaroring circuit. Race 1 saw James Walker start from 15th on the grid with team-mate Richard Philippe joining him on the 8th row in 16th position after both drivers suffered with red-flags in Qualifying. Both drivers made solid starts with James moving up to 10th position and Richard 12th. Daniil Move (Interwetten) then made contact with Richard forcing him to slow and lose several positions, leaving him 22nd. An incident on the start/finish straight then brought out the Safety-Car while the damaged cars were cleared. During this time, James suffered a temporary gear-selection problem. This forced him backwards in the race-order until he was able to select gear and follow the field for the re-start. Once racing resumed, James made his mandatory pit-stop on Lap 7 with Richard stopping 2 laps later. On the final lap, contact was again made with Richard's car, this time by Pippa Mann (Cram) causing considerable damage to his car. He was able to recover and finish in 20th position with James finishing in 12th. James and Richard started 12th and 20th on the grid for Race 2. James made an impressive start moving up to 7th place before making a small mistake under braking while battling with Piccione (RC) and dropping back to 12th. Richard Philippe made steady progress throughout the race and following several battles with other drivers, came home 14th. James moved up the field during the race to finish in 10th position, taking one championship point. The World Series now travels to Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium for Rounds 8 and 9 on the 18th and 19th August.

05/06/2007

The Formula Renault team recently enjoyed another 1,2,3 at the super quick Thruxton race circuit. Qualifying went well with Fortec drivers lining-up 1st,2nd,4th, and 9th on the grid for Race 1. Dean Smith won the first race with Riki Christo and Duncan Tappy following him home. Ryuji Yamamoto was hit by another racer at the chicane, damaging the suspension although he was able to continue and finish 16th. Qualifying for Race 2 also went well for the team with Dean Smith starting 2nd and Duncan Tappy in 3rd, Smith missing out on pole position by less than a one-tenth of a second. A mistake in Qualifying 2 left Riki Christo 8th on the grid in front of Ryuji in 9th. Race 2 was won by a very jubilant Dean with Duncan in 2nd place. Riki made a flying start from 8th but put a wheel off the track, forcing him to the rear of the field. He then raced hard to finish 11th setting the fastest rookie lap of the race. Contact between Ryuji and another racer, forcing him to pit and retire from the race. A strong weekend with high points finishes puts Fortec in the lead of the championship with Duncan leading, followed closely by Dean in second.

04/06/2007

The World Series by Renault team scored their first points of the 2007 season at the recent Nurburgring race with replacement driver Yelmer Buurman finishing 9th in Race 2. Qualifying saw James Walker line up in 16th position on the grid with Yelmer Buurman, standing-in for Richard Philippe who was unable to race following a broken-hand sustained at Monza starting an impressive 21st. Race 1 saw James run as high as 13th position before being taken-off by Julian Jousse (Tech-1) to finish in 24th position. Yelmer driver a solid race to finish 14th and line-up on the 7th row of the grid for Race 2. Yelmer made an impressive start to the 2nd race and made up several places to 8th position. He would eventually be overtaken by Charlie Kimball and finish 9th. The events of Race 1 meant that James would sit behind several slower cars in Race 2, limiting his chances of moving up the order to finish in the points. He would go on to finish 18th.

24/04/2007

FORTEC 1,2,3. Leo Mansell: "British F3 was the right choice for us because, one, it is our home formula and two, we have a great relationship with Fortec, working with them through testing and the race at Thruxton. We're also visiting some great tracks next year Spa, Monza, Silverstone GP, Brands Hatch GP and the street race in Bucharest. It's a schedule we're really excited about."

Greg Mansell: "British F3 is highly respected amongst the other F3 series and next years calendar is fantastic with four tracks from the old F1 calendar and as a driver you couldn't wish for any more. There are fantastic cars and we have a great team in Fortec supporting us and I'm just really looking forward to it, it was the right choice for us."

Richard Dutton, Team Principal Fortec Motorsport: "It's a great honour for Fortec to be involved with Leo, Greg and Nigel. We've worked hard over the last few years in Formula 3 and it's great to have drivers signed and organised so early. We've got the test programme coming up and it is nice going into the season fully ready and organised. It's a great honour to work with Nigel and the boys. I certainly wasn't surprised by their pace at Thruxton because of the speed they were showing in testing. They both amazed me how fast they were developing. The progress was amazing, so I was not at all surprised to see them go so well at Thruxton. If you had to choose which circuit would be the hardest to have your first race it would be Thruxton and I know if it had been anywhere else they would probably have done a better job. Having said that they still did a great job that weekend and we were all very proud."

Stephane Ratel, SRO Chairman: “We are very pleased to welcome Leo and Greg to British Formula 3 for 2007. British F3 has been the traditional career path for young drivers from all over the world looking towards Formula One. I’m very happy to see that Leo and Greg have decided that Britain’s premier single seat racing championship is the right place for the next step in their career development and have chosen to drive with Fortec Motorsport, a team that has tasted the victory champagne twice this year.”
